This author – with his comment about Regency bucks escaping the “rather trying ” company of Jane Austen’s heroines – reminds us of the exchange between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy where Elizabeth tells him she is surprised at him knowing any accomplished females at all.
If this author thinks Jane Austen’s heroines are “rather trying,” we wonder if he has ever actually read any of the books.
