The major Jane Austen pilgrimage sites may be located in England, but we Americans have access to a wealth of Austen material on this side of the ocean—notably at the Morgan Library & Museum, in New York City, which holds an important collection of Austen letters and manuscripts.

This summer, the Morgan will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth with a major new exhibition. “A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250,” which opens on June 6 and runs through September 14, brings together books, manuscripts, art, and artifacts from public and private collections in England and the U.S., inviting visitors to discover “the inspiring story of Jane Austen’s authorship and her gradual rise to international fame.”
JASNA’s New Jersey region is offering members a special opportunity to tour the new exhibit with its co-curator, the Austen scholar Juliette Wells, professor of literary studies at Goucher College, near Baltimore.
We will meet at the Morgan Library, 225 Madison Avenue in New York City, for our in-person tour on Saturday, June 21, at 2 pm. The trip costs $20 per person, payable by check or PayPal upon registration. (Please note that you are responsible for your own transportation to New York.)
Because space on the tour is limited, we are currently accepting registration only from JASNA members who list New Jersey as their primary region. If slots remain after that, we’ll open registration to other JASNA members and then to the general public.
