Rudolph Ackermann April 20, 1764–March 30, 1834 |
Ackermann was a bookseller, inventor, lithographer, publisher and businessman. He was born in Germany and as a young man he moved to Paris and then to London. Once in London he set up a print shop and art school in The Strand. He then progressed to setting up a lithographic press.
In 1809 he established his Repository of Arts, Literature, Fashions. This was a monthly publication that was in production until 1892. Ackermann’s (as it was known in some circles) was a major influence in English cultural life.
