This is a meme hosted by Rose City Reader. They ask that you post the first line(s) to the book you are currently reading and share some feelings on the book. I’m tweaking this a bit and I’m going to share first lines of books/stories, written by, about, or in the theme of Jane Austen.
This week I’m taking my opening from Captain Frederick Wentworth’s Persuasion: Jane Austen’s Classic Retold Through His Eyes by Regina Jeffers. This is also my next book in my Austen in August reading.
“I have you Captain!” the midshipman cried. “I required assistance!” the youth screamed over the turmoil on the deck, as he attempted to support the weight of the slumped-over officer, who clung to his exhausted frame. –>Captain Frederick Wentworth had recognized the danger of pursuing the retreating French sloop, but he also had acknowledged the necessity of keeping the French from reaching reinforcements and from placing English secrets in Bonaparte’s hands. Despite the fact that his wife traveled aboard the Resolve with him, Frederick had made the decision to take the French vessel.
Don’t worry the wife is Anne. I’ve only read a few pages, but can tell this is going to be a good book.
