February is the perfect month for a cozy discussion of soup, toasted cheese, and Regency friendship by the virtual fire!
Martha Lloyd was a lifelong friend of Jane Austen and lived at Chawton Cottage during the author’s most productive literary years. Martha’s recipe book reads like a Who’s Who of Jane’s life, with named contributions from her family members and close friends. Handwritten during a period of over thirty years, Martha’s collection captures nearly two hundred culinary recipes and home remedies, including the white soup mentioned in Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austen’s favorite toasted cheese and mead.

Join author and food historian Julienne Gehrer on Saturday, February 19th at 2pm EST for a detailed look at Martha’s Lloyd’s Household Book, an extraordinary artifact described as “a kitchen window” into the daily life Martha shared with Jane, her sister Cassandra and their mother.
