Pride & Prejudice Adaptations: White Shirt vs. Hand Flex Represent!

Join JASNA-NJ on Saturday, August 20 at 2 PM for a discussion of one of Jane Austen’s most beloved books, Pride and Prejudice, which has been adapted for film multiple times.

To put it politely, each version has its fans and…critics. It is a truth universally acknowledged that merely whispering “Firth white shirt” or “Macfadyen hand flex” in a crowd of Janeites can result in bonnets-off brawling.

To join us on August 20th, please register here.  We look forward to hearing from you!

We will begin our discussion with the 1995 version (starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth) vs. the 2005 version (starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen).  Whether you are Team ’95 or Team ’05 join us for what promises to be a lively and entertaining time!

Who is your favorite Darcy?  Which Lizzie Bennet is tops in your book?  Which adaptation has the best worst sister (Mary or Lydia)? The most Mr. Collins-y Mr. Collins?  Which version has the best ending?  Let’s discuss all these things and much more.  Earlier adaptations (1940, 1980) and fan fiction (eg., Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) are welcome topics for discussion as well.  Rewatch as many as you can and come prepared to defend your favorite! May the best Lizzie and Darcy win!

Various versions are available on different platforms.
