Lucy Worsley, historian and author of a highly acclaimed biography of Jane Austen is back, this time with an biography of Agatha Christie. Agatha Christie: An Elusive Woman will be released in the United States on September 14, 2022.

The wonderful podcast All About Agatha interviewed Worsley on the subject of her book, but she also (of course) brings up Austen, and the issue of the perceived need to downplay the effort behind a women writer’s output, and the tendency to read the author’s biography into her fictional works.
Other new Austen-adjacent biographies include Paula Byrne’s biography of Barbara Pym, The Adventures of Miss Barbara Pym. Not only are Pym’s understated domestic dramas often compared with Austen’s, but Byrne is also biographer of Austen (The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things).
