Is JASNA-NJ finished with discussing Emma? To quote the great Cher Horowitz, AS IF!
Join JASNA-NJ on February 17th over Zoom at 2pm EST for a discussion of the three most recent feature film adaptations of Jane Austen’s Emma. Register here.
These include:
Emma (1996), starring Gweneth Paltrow (set in a very 90s-looking Regency period, complete with minimalist shift dresses and plucked brows):

Clueless (1995), starring Alicia Silverstone (a contemporary adaptation, from an era when teens having cellphones was a sign of Beverly Hills-level decadence):

AND
Emma. (2020), starring Anya Taylor-Joy (visually, a Clueless-influenced spin on the Regency):

While we will focus on these three adaptations so everyone can rewatch them by our meeting time, but also feel free to bring up any television adaptations for comparison, including the Emmas starring Kate Beckinsale (1996) and Romola Garai (2009) as the titular heroine, and any others you’d like to discuss!
Make sure to get your hair cut in time so you aren’t late! Although hopefully not at Frank Churchill 1996’s (Ewan McGregor’s) barber.
