In case you have missed one of my many mentions of this book, Deborah is a member of our region as well as our Treasurer. This in no way influenced my opinion of the book, I would have picked this book up and read it no matter who wrote it, or if I new Deborah or not.
That beings said I think everyone needs to pick up a copy of this book and read it. It’s a fun read for those of us who are Janeites and I think it would help those who don’t understand get a better idea of this fandom.
Deborah takes the reader through the world of Jane Austen Fandom while telling of her own journey. We meet a number of interesting Janeites and if you’re like me, you can see yourself in many of these stories. We see that Jane and her works play a roll in the lives of so many people. For each person who has been touched in some way there are those who won’t get it, and that’s okay. Janeites, get it, and I think that’s what this book is about, hearing the stories of others who ‘get it.’
Not every Janeite is the same. We all don’t get dressed up, we aren’t all obsessed with Mr. Darcy, and we all have our different favorites, but we all love the author and the rich literary world she created.
Throughout the book Deborah mentions The Dress. Deborah felt that she had to dress up at least once and flung herself into the process. Unfortunately, unless you happened to see Deborah in person at the AGM she wore it too, there is no proof that The Dress exists. Well Deborah has shared a picture of The Dress and if you haven’t seen it already check back here on Wednesday!
